The Clerk of the Board’s Office turned to Spinitar for a comprehensive audiovisual system for electronic voting, recording meetings, and integrating video into meetings.
With more than 1.7 million residents, Santa Clara County is one of the largest counties in the state of California. The Santa Clara Board of Supervisors is responsible for many facets of County business, including establishing County policies, adopting ordinances and passing resolutions. The Clerk of the Board’s Office is a department that performs many functions for the Board of Supervisors, its committees, advisory boards, commissions, and the general public.
The Challenge
The Clerk of the Board’s Office was looking to integrate a comprehensive audiovisual system in the Board Chambers that would enable them to establish electronic voting capabilities, digitally record meetings and sessions onto CD-ROM, and integrate video capabilities into their meetings and presentations. In addition, they needed to upgrade their audio and microphone system to enhance the sound qualities of presentations during meetings. Overall, the audiovisual system would need to be user-friendly and seamlessly integrate into the existing Board Chamber room infrastructure.
The Approach
The Board selected Spinitar to integrate a custom, feature-rich audiovisual system for its Board Chambers. After meeting on-site to analyze the Chamber room infrastructure and recommend the appropriate components for the Board’s needs, Spinitar approached the project in three phases.
The Solution
For the first phase, Spinitar performed a custom upgrade to the Speech Reinforcement System by integrating several Sony CD-ROM recorders, Shure microphones and additional audio equipment.
During the second phase of the audiovisual system integration, Spinitar installed Stewart projection screens, Barco projectors and a 42” NEC plasma display.
For the third phase, which involved establishing an electronic voting system, Spinitar installed and integrated several Crestron touch panel displays to provide an easy-to-use, visual means of entering and displaying voting results to Chamber audience members. In addition, Spinitar integrated PC workstation components and additional touch panels to provide Clerk of the Board staff with a means of monitoring the audiovisual equipment from an on-site control room.
The Results
As a result of the audiovisual integration, the Board is now equipped with a seamless, non-interrupted method of recording meetings and sessions onto CD-ROM, and the ability to maintain an archive of sessions for later reference. Electronic presentations can now be conducted in a more efficient and visually-appealing manner. Spinitar’s upgrade to the Speech Reinforcement System has enabled better speech clarity, intelligibility and audio performance at sessions.
They now have electronic voting capabilities and a visual means of displaying voting results to audience members, which has streamlined the voting process. In addition, as a result of the touch panel integration, the Board now has an easy-to-use, efficient interface for managing audiovisual equipment, configuration and performance. Spinitar’s professional audiovisual installation and integration capabilities have also enhanced the overall aesthetic and visual appeal of the Board Chambers.
